AZ Alkmaar will face Celtic without star winger in Europa League first leg with captain still a doubt

One of AZ Alkmaar’s key men will miss their first leg clash against Celtic.

Ange Postecoglou’s team host the Dutch outfit tomorrow night in the first leg of their Europa League play-off round tie.

And they’ll have to try and get a result at Celtic Park without star Swedish winger Jesper Karlsson, who is suspended.

The wide man, who is valued at £7million, was shown a red card in their final group stage game against Croatian side Rijeka last season.

So the 23-year-old has stayed at home ahead of the meeting with Celtic.

AZ signed Danish goalkeeper Peter Vindahl Jensen yesterday and he goes into their squad for the trip to Glasgow.

However, doubts remain on the availability of skipper Teeun Koopmeiners.

He was dropped for their 1-0 Eredivise defeat to RKC Waalwijk at the weekend amidst transfer interest from Atalanta.

Koopmeiers was left out as Pasaal Jansen’s side kicked off their league campaign with a loss - less than ideal preparation for their showdown with Celtic.

180 minutes separates the winners and the Europa League group stages, with the losers dropping into the new Europa Conference League.
