AZ Alkmaar v Man Utd LIVE! Europa League 2019/20 result and reaction as United draw 0-0 away

Manchester United laboured to a useful Europa League point at AZ Alkmaar, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be concerned with yet another unconvincing performance from his side.

United were much changed from the lineup which drew 1-1 with Arsenal on Monday night, with Solskjaer making eight changes to his starting XI.

Mason Greenwood returned to lead the line with Angel Gomes and Daniel James providing support, while there was a first start for young left-back Brandon Williams.

But if Solskjaer was expecting more zip from his side, it was sorely lacking as they struggled to build any sort of consistency in their build-up play.

United has David de Gea to thank for a number of smart stops, and they struggled to test AZ at all.

Despite an uninspiring performance, a point in what should realistically be their toughest game of Group L is a welcome one - but at this point, few of Solskjaer's second strong are making a case for being included in his first-choice lineup, even with the club struggling for results.

Man Utd lineup, team news and full travelling squad

Mason Greenwood leads the line for United, although Paul Pogba and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are out.

Solskjaer did not want to risk Pogba worsening a foot injury on the plastic pitch, with the midfielder joining Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Phil Jones on the injury list.

Angel Gomes and Diogo Dalot have made the trip and start, as does young full-back Brandon Williams.

Man Utd XI: De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Marcos Rojo, Williams; Fred, Matic; Mata, Gomes, James; Greenwood

Subs: Romero, Maguire, Tuanzebe, McTominay, Lingard, Chong, Rashford

AZ Alkmaar XI: Bizot; Sugawara, Vlaar, Wuytens, Wijndal; Midtsjo, De Wit, Koopmeiners; Stengs, Boadu, Idrissi

Subs: De Boer, Hatzidiakos, Ouwejan, Druijf, Aboukhlal, Clasie, Reijnders

Squad: De Gea, Romero, Grant, Dalot, Lindelof, Maguire, Tuanzebe, Rojo, Williams, McTominay, Matic, Fred, Garner, Pereira, Mata, Lingard, Gomes, James, Chong, Rashford, Greenwood.

Prediction: AZ Alkmaar 1-1 Man Utd

This arguably United's toughest match in the group campaign and with Solskjaer's options going forward still depleted, it could be another tough evening on the road.
