AYUTTHAYA: A section of the road between Ayutthaya town and Sena district was flooded on Monday as the Chao Phraya Dam increased its discharge rate, causing traffic congestion.

On Monday morning, the Chao Phraya dam in Chai Nat province discharged water downstream at 3,113 cubic metres/second, the highest rate this year, raising the levels of the Chao Phraya and Noy rivers downstream.

The two rivers overflowed into riverside communities and roads. The earth embankment crumbled at Wat Ban Daeng  in tambon Nam Tao, Bang Ban district, and water poured across the Ayutthaya-Sena road.

A section of the road from Si Kuk bridge across the Noy river was 15-30 centimetres under water, causing heavy traffic.

The water further flowed into rice fields in the adjoining areas of Bang Ban, Bang Sai and Sena districts.
