Ayurvedic doctor booked for rape

Bhopal: An ayurvedic (BAMS) doctor was booked for allegedly raping a 31-year-old physiotherapist and pressurising her for religious conversion for marriage. The incident was reported at Ashoka Garden police station on Wednesday. A rape case under relevant sections of IPC and Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act-2021 was registered against the accused. No arrest has been made yet.

Ashoka Garden SHO Alok Shrivastava said that the survivor stated in her complaint that she came in contact with the accused at a hospital sometime back. After their friendship, Nihal started visiting her home and proposed marriage. “On November 2, 2018 he raped the survivor on the promise of marriage at survivor’s home,” said SHO Shrivastava, adding that the survivor’s mother also invested her money in his hospital, as per the complaint.

A few months later, she came to know that the accused belonged to another religion. When she protested and asked his real identity, he assaulted the survivor and agreed for marriage on the condition that she converts to his religion.

The woman alleged that the accused even removed her name from the partnership agreement of the hospitals without her knowledge.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
