Ayrshire weather: Storm Brendan set to cause flooding today

A flood alert has been issued for Ayrshire and Arran.

There is a risk of significant coastal flooding on Monday and Tuesday due to higher than usual tides and large waves.

The weather system, named Storm Brendan by the Irish Met Office, is about to collide with the Ayrshire coast.

This will increase the risk of flooding to low lying land and roads and could affect exposed coastal properties.

There could also be wave overtopping of coastal defences.

As a result Culzean Castle and Country Park has been forced to close to all visitors.

A spokesperson said: "Due to the yellow weather warning in place, Culzean Castle & Country Park will be closed to all visitors on Monday 13th January.

"Culzean apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188

The flood alert is now in force until further notice.
