Ayrshire train services badly affected as signalling fault causes severe delays

Trains in Ayrshire are subject to delays or are being revised this afternoon.

A signalling fault in the southern part of the county is heavily affecting a number of routes, leaving passengers requiring replacement buses.

ScotRail has confirmed that their engineers are working hard to sort out the problem.

The news comes as trains between Kilmarnock and Dumfries are still cancelled due to a landslip between Thornhill and Holywood in Dumfriesshire.

ScotRail updated users on their Twitter page this morning, saying: "Network Rail Scotland have advised us of a fault with the signalling system between Girvan and Maybole.

"Services between Ayr and Girvan will be delayed or revised. Also services between Kilmarnock and Stranraer will be delayed or revised.

"Engineers are on site working hard to fix the fault."

They added: "To help keep you moving, ticket acceptance is in place with Stagecoach West.

"It's in place with on the following buses: 58/60 (Ayr/Maybole/Loaning/Girvan/Stranraer). Onward travel from Ayr on bus X77 (Ayr/Prestwick/Kilmarnock/Glasgow)."
