Ayrshire theatre star busts lockdown blues with new talk show from empty stage

A theatre star is hoping to bring laughs to lockdown with a talk show streamed over the internet.

Jerry Taylor is the creator of a new series set to be beamed from an empty auditorium.

His 'Gaiety Guests' show debuts tonight at 7.30pm on the theatre's YouTube channel.

But the host, a seasoned performer on stage and screen, admits to feeling nerves like never before.

He told Ayrshire Live: "Being an interviewer is a totally new ball game for me.

"Asking people the right questions is a skill in itself and I'm learning as I go along.

"But lockdown has given me the chance to do some presenting gigs and I've really enjoyed it.

"I'm more used to doing light hearted stuff but I see this as a chance to dig deeper and delve into people's lives."

The new venture kicks off with entertainer Fraser Boyle as the two sit in conversation on the Gaiety stage.

Jerry, 37, revealed: "Fraser is an amazing guy with so many stories to tell and we could have sat there all day.

"I don't think I've ever had a phone conversation with him that's lasted less than two hours.

"He's a thouroughly entertaining watch and anyone who's seen him on stage as a panto dame knows just how funny he is."

Jerry, of Ayr, added: "We've filmed this as a pilot episode and The Gaiety are hoping to extend the series if we get good feedback.

"I'd love to interview the likes of Dean Park, Tom Urie and Dorothy Paul.

"I have so many ideas in my head for making the feature work and hopefully everyone watching enjoys it as much as I did creating it."
