A street light, which has snapped in two, has remained broken for two and a half years in Prestwick.
The lamp was smashed in a car accident in the town's East Road and residents have been waiting for it to get fixed ever since.
The top segment has been taken away while the bent bottom half remains with tape wrapped around it.
Prestwick South Community Council want the problem sorted out over health and safety fears.
Member Martin Dorans said: “This should not take two and a half years. There is a lack of urgency.
“This has been an ongoing issue with the Ayrshire Roads Alliance. Nothing has come to fruition. All we get is lip service.
“Prestwick South Community Council has the health and safety of residents foremost in our minds.
“We don’t know if this is live or not.”
Road bosses promise it will be fixed this month.
An Ayrshire Roads Alliance spokeswoman said: “We have attempted to replace the lamp post on two previous occasions but for various reasons, the work could not be completed.
“The works are now programmed in for Wednesday, April 21.”
The Ayrshire Roads Alliance has a target to attend and where possible repair dark lamps within three working days.
The Ayrshire Roads Alliance website said: “We carry out regular inspections of our street lighting, however faults inevitably occur between inspection periods.”
Its website added: “Lighting repairs are normally completed within three working days of being notified to our contractor, however there are occasions where this is not possible due to faults such as an underground cable fault or circumstances outwith our control such as a failure of the electricity supply.”
