Ayrshire SNP MSP candidate has campaign poster defaced with 'liar' slur

An Ayrshire MSP candidate has hit out at the ‘sad individual’ who defaced her campaign board with tar.

Election hopeful for Ayr, Siobhian Brown, had her poster vandalised by a slur accusing her of being a ‘liar’.

The SNP politician is hoping to claim the Ayr seat – which would be a historic first-time win for the party in the town.

Ms Brown’s poster near Ayr Racecourse was targeted over the weekend with the current councillor for Ayr West left angered by the damage.

Now police are on the hunt for the individual responsible and are checking CCTV cameras on Whitletts Road.

Ms Brown has told Ayrshire Live of her disappointment that someone would “stoop so low”.

She said: “It was clearly intentional, they had tar and a rag was left there that was used.

“I was told by someone in my team that it had been vandalised, then someone sent me a picture, it is just disappointing.

“In politics everyone has different affiliations, but you can have a healthy debate about it.

“I’m not surprised over some of the things that have been said and done in the past in politics but this is a new low.”

The politician says she is confused by the content and has denied the claims she is a liar.

Ms Brown added: “It is a random insult, but you need to be thick skinned.

“You can’t lie, you just get caught out, everyone is always watching your every move so it doesn’t make sense to me to be called a liar.”

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
