Ayrshire school pays touching playground tribute to popular teacher who passed away

An Irvine school opened its brand new playground last week and dedicated a bench to a popular teacher who passed away last year.

The new play facilities at Loudoun Montgomery Primary were officially opened by the late Jillian Hodge’s parents, who were invited along to the school for the special occasion.

The new playground was developed to improve pupil health and well-being.

The school said: “The children are enjoying the variety of activities which encourage many skills and provides many opportunities for outdoor learning.

“As part of the development a bench was purchased to remember and celebrate the life of Miss Hodge, a much-loved teacher who passed away in May 2018.

“Her favourite subject was mathematics and, as a fitting tribute, the bench is in the mathematics zone.”
