Ayrshire's first Greek dessert shop offers ice creams, cakes and huge range of baclavas

The first Greek dessert shop in Ayrshire has opened its doors aiming to be a sweet success with customers.

Pagotaria - meaning ice cream in Greek - is now trading in Ayr's Newmarket Street.

It marks an expansion to the empire of chef Tony Kyrcikos, whose next door venue Gyros has proved a huge hit since opening last July.

Now Tony and his family are adding to their traditional Med fayre with the opening of another outlet.

He told Ayrshire Live: "We want to offer customers as much choice as we can. Pagotaria will be able to do that.

"We have 10 different varieties of Baklava as well as our range of traditional Greek ice creams and cakes.

"Things have been going really well at Gyros since we opened in the summer and people have come to know the quality of food they will get.

"So we hope they will also give our dessert shop a try as well and it can be the same success."

Baklava is a layered pastry dessert made of filo pastry, filled with chopped nuts, and sweetened with syrup or honey.

It is revered throughout Greek restaurants and delis.

Tony and his Gyros team are among the raft of local takeaways to have signed up to the Ayr Eats app, which officially launched today.

He added: "We hope to see business booming in the coming weeks and months and are really looking forward to summer.

"We love being here in Ayr and are hoping for many good times ahead."
