Ayrshire rush hour chaos for commuters as storm bites

Irvine rail passengers could be in line for a longer commute home this evening as the stormy weather continues to cause havoc.

The line between Kilwinning and Largs has been closed due to 'severe weather' with train services between Glasgow Central and Largs terminating at and starting back from Kilwinning.

Scotrail said that all stations between Kilwinning and Largs 'cannot be served by train'.

An update from Scotrail added: “Because of severe weather between Stevenston and Ardrossan South Beach, train services from Glasgow Central heading towards Ardrossan Harbour and Largs will be terminated and started back from Kilwinning.

“This is because of high winds and sea spray causing the overhead wires to trip. Disruption is expected to last until around 7pm today.”

Replacement buses will be in operation, shuttling between Kilwinning and Largs/Ardrossan in both directions calling at all stations.
