Ayrshire rockabilly band set to make waves this weekend

West Coast rockers and rockabilly rebels The Best Bad Influence have been causing quite a stir throughout Ayrshire and in demand across Scotland.

And this weekend they will be rocking the Saltcoats harbourside as part of the Sound on the Sand festival taking place this Saturday, August 3 alongside Hipsway and Hue and Cry.

Having made new fans at their sell out shows at Glasgow’s Classic Grand and The Kelvingrove Band Stand, they even caught the attention of 1980’s favourites, The Stray Cats who gave them sky high plaudits and tipped them as one for the future.

Lee Rocker from the Stray Cats said: "These teenagers seem to have no fear as they grace stages all over Scotland with their high octane, take on a 50’s era that was graced by the likes of Bill Haley and the Comets, so much so they’ve been snapped up into what seems to be the resemblance of a recording deal."

It was Tommy Irvine from Red Door Records in Kilbirnie has been a long time supporter of the band and it was Tommy who gave them their first gig.

"I gave these guys one of their first gigs about two-and-a-half-years ago and they caught the ears of everyone straight away,” said Tommy.

"They were raw and naive then but they’ve grown up very quickly and have been turning audience’s heads which is one of the hardest battles a band will face.

"It would seem they have folks under some kind of spell as every gig I’ve been along to the floor is full of folk doing the jive, it’s pure and simple rockabilly music but they bring an edge that lifts it to another place.

"The crowds love it."

The band will also be playing Live @ Troon on August 18 and performing at Audio Glasgow on August 24 supporting The Hanging Men.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Alexander Munro was looking forward to a busy few weeks ahead: "Things seem to be moving really fast right now but I’m keeping myself grounded with the help of family and people around me as I know this is a hard business.

"I’m very pleased Tommy’s offered to help us out as we have a host of our own material that we want to get out, we’ve had gig offers from all over the country but we are concentrating on getting our commitments out the way for this year before we head in to the studio probably around October to get started on our first album and probably our first meaningful recordings which should help us enormously.

"We’ve had a good few laughs over the past couple of years but just two or three weeks ago we were in Glasgow’s Trongate busking, people just circled us, dancing and singing the songs they knew and just freaking out to our original stuff which was a bit humbling to be honest.

"We are looking forward to Sound on the Sand."
