Police are reminding people to remain vigilant following an increase in telephone and online scams.
A number of Ayrshire residents have been targeted by fraudsters in recent weeks and officers are keen to remind members of the community to be both alert and aware of scams of this nature.
Recent reports have been received stating that scammers pretending to be from reputable companies are asking victims to download software or applications to their computer and mobile phone which allows them access to personal details and banking information.
Police inspector Catherine Glass of Kilmarnock Police Office said: “We would like to encourage those who receive phone calls or emails of this nature to get in contact with police.
“These criminals are well versed and can be influential in their style, tone and approach to make you believe they are genuine.
“If you are concerned about who you may be speaking to on the phone, hang up and call the organisation direct to ensure you are speaking to the correct people. Do not allow yourself to be pressured into downloading any software or applications that give criminals access to your sensitive information and finances.
“I would encourage anyone who believes they may have been victim to fraud or a scam to contact police on 101."
