Ayrshire police launch probe after man attacked and robbed by gang

Police are appealing for information after a man was attacked and robbed by a gang  in Irvine.

The sickening incident happened at around 5.45pm on Saturday, April 18 as the 21-year-old victim was walking along the footpath between Dreghorn and the crematorium roundabout.

He was approached by four white men, all with shaved heads and in their mid-to-late teens, who punched and kicked him to the ground.

They then stole personal items from him before making off towards Dreghorn.

Detective Constable Bryn Meehan, Saltcoats CID, said: "This was a totally unprovoked attack on the young man. Although he didn't require hospital treatment he did get medical assistance following the attack.

"Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the area. One of the youths involved is further described as wearing a white Armani top with a purple mark on the chest.

"The attack was in the early evening and the area is popular with dog walkers so I am appealing to anyone who was in the area, who either saw the attack, or maybe the youths hanging about the area, to get in touch.

"Any information can be passed to Saltcoats CID via 101. Please quote reference number 3322 of 20 April, 2020, when calling. Alternatively, information can be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
