Ayrshire police chief quits top role for job at United Nations Climate Change Conference

Ayrshire’s divisional commander has quit his post one year after taking the region’s top police job.

Mark Hargreaves will be taking a policing role at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26).

The cost of policing the major conference in Glasgow is estimated to be at £250 million.

A replacement for chief superintendent Hargreaves is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm Chief Superintendent Mark Hargreaves is being transferred to Glasgow Division to work on arranging the policing of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) later this year.

“We are consulting with the three local authorities in Ayrshire Division with a view to identifying a suitable successor.”
