An Ayrshire nursing home where 22 patients died of coronavirus is today at the centre of a new COVID-19 outbreak.
Ayrshire Live can reveal how Berelands House Care Home, in Prestwick’s Boydfield Avenue, has been hit once again with the killer bug.
The total numbers of those affected have not been disclosed but sources close to the care home say that as many as 15 residents and three members of staff have tested positive for COVID-19.
A spokesperson for Berelands House Care Home said: “We are working very closely with all the relevant authorities, regularly testing staff and residents, and liaising with families.
“Staff are following all protocols and necessary precautions, and vaccinations have been rolled out at the home for staff and residents.
“The home is closed to new admissions and non-essential visits in line with government guidelines, and our amazing staff are working throughout this difficult time to provide the best possible care.”
Back in June, Ayrshire Live told how the death toll at the Prestwick care home hit by coronavirus rose to 22.
At the time, bosses at Berelands House Care Home confirmed two residents lost their lives.
Those tragic deaths followed 20 people passing away with suspected COVID-19, within a fortnight, during the month of April.
Berelands, which specialises in dementia care, has been among Scotland’s worst-hit homes for the virus.
Both it and Elderslie Care Home in Paisley, Renfrewshire have suffered the loss of 22 lives.
Following the last outbreak, Central Ayrshire MP Philippa Whitford called the original death toll a “terrible tragedy.”
