Ayrshire motorists face road closures as water works take place throughout Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock drivers are being told to prepare for over a month of road closures as Scottish Water carry out improvements to the water network.

The £5million works, which began in Glasgow Road last month, will progress into other areas of the town throughout September and October.

From September 9, Kilmaurs Road will be closed from the junction of A735 to Altonhill Farm for approximately three weeks.

This will be followed by around two weeks of closures on Sandbed Street from its junction with Bank Street up to St Marnock Street from September 19.

Then, from October 3, Waterlane will be closed from Sandbed Street to King Street for approximately two weeks.

The work involves upgrades to over 40 miles of pipework to improve the resilience of the supply.

Work across the area is being carried out by Scottish Water’s alliance partner Caledonia Water Alliance and is expected to take approximately nine months in total to complete.

Joanne Craig, Customer Manager with Caledonia Water Alliance said: “This upgrade work to the water infrastructure in Kilmarnock will ensure Scottish Water customers in the area can continue to enjoy clear, fresh drinking water. It will also help reduce the chance of pipes bursting.

“We’d like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while this improvement work is undertaken.”
