All antenatal and postnatal visits to women in Ayrshire Maternity Unit have been suspended.
Health chiefs made the call today in a bid to stop the potential spread of the coronavirus.
Inductions of labour are also included in the new measure and partners won't be allowed to stay in the midwifery suite.
New rules will come into force on Monday, March 30 and only one birthing partner will be permitted to accompany women when they are in labour or having a planned caesarean section.
A statement from NHS Ayrshire & Arran women and children's service said: "Ayrshire Maternity Unit has regretfully taken the decision to suspend visiting for all antenatal and postnatal women in order to limit the potential spread of coronavirus and to protect mothers and newborn babies.
"This includes induction of labour. Partners will also not be able to stay in the midwifery suite.
"This will come into effect from Monday, March 30.
"Only one birthing partner will be permitted to accompany you when you are in labour or for a planned caesarean section.
"When you are ready to go home you will be assisted to the front door where you can be met by a family member for your transport home.
"We seek your understanding during this challenging time."
