Ayrshire man who assaulted two police officers and branded one a rapist dodges jail

An Irvine man called a police officer a rapist.

Jason Trotter pleaded guilty to four charges when he appeared before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court this week.

The 33-year-old admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner on February 17 by shouting, swearing, clenching his fists and abusing police officers.

He also pleaded guilty to assaulting two police constables.

On a further charge he admitted resisting arrest by struggling with four police constables and trying to free himself from them.

The court heard that around 8.30pm Trotter was at home with his partner, drinking heavily, and began talking about self-harming.

Due to concern for him his partner called a family member, who in turn contacted police.

The prosecutor said: “When police witnesses arrived he was initially calm. However, his behaviour quickly deteriorated.”

Trotter told police they were ar******s and called one of them a rapist.

They tried to detain him and he began to lash out.

He was then placed on the ground, at which point he kicked out at a police constable, kicking him on the shins”.

When he was placed in a police van he kicked a constable on the inner thigh.

Trotter, of Warrix Avenue in Irvine, was sentenced to 80 hours of unpaid work in the community by Sheriff Jamieson.
