Ayrshire man in dock after threatening to burn an Irvine woman's house down

An Irvine man threatened to burn a woman’s house down and smashed a window of her home.

Jay Thomson, 25, admitted the offences when he appeared before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

The incidents, which occurred on July 21 at an address on Dickson Drive, took place after the woman made an allegation that Thomson had broken into her house.

In response, Thomson became aggressive towards the woman and called her a “f***ing cow”.

Prosecutor Vicky McMillan told the court: “The accused walked into the garden shouting and swearing and raised his fist which concerned the complainer.

“He then punched a front window next to the front door which caused glass to smash and go inside the house. It was there that two young children were standing.”

Thomas also threatened: “I will be back”.

Ms McMillan continued: “As he left he continued to shout and swear, referring to the complainer as a “f***ing cow” and stated: ‘I will burn your house down.’

“Police attended shortly after but the accused was not traced at this time.”

Thomson, of Redburn Place, also admitted a third charge of kicking a police constable on August 1 when officers attended at Caldon Road in Irvine and arrested him for his behaviour on July 21.

The court heard how Thomson was arrested and placed in a cell van and “kicked a police constable to the chest.”

Thomson pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner on July 21 and striking a window and causing the glass to shatter beside two children, exposing them to the risk of injury. He also admitted assaulting the police officer.

Thomson’s defending agent told the court: “What kicked off the matter is that the complainer made an allegation that he had broken into her house, but he should have just walked away.

“He accepts he should not have lashed out. He was under the influence of alcohol.”

Sheriff Jamieson deferred sentencing until September 27 and Thomson was granted bail.
