An Ayrshire man has admitted having sex with a 13-year-old when he appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.
David McFarlane, 20, of Ardin Road, Prestwick contacted the teenage victim via Snapchat and arranged to meet her at Fairlie train station on November 17 last year.
The court heard how McFarlane, who was 19 at the time of the offence, had searched Google for secluded areas the pair could go to.
Around one month prior to the incident, McFarlane messaged the girl via Snapchat and the pair engaged in general conversation.
The prosecutor told the court: “During that conversation, both learned the age of each other, that the accused was 19 and the complainer was 13.
“Conversation turned sexual in nature and the accused asked the complainer if she wanted to meet him.”
This was arranged and the pair met at the railway station.
The fiscal depute described how McFarlane “used Google Maps to find a wooded area near the train station where they could have intercourse.”
McFarlane asked the girl for oral sex before penetrating her.
The pair were later seen on CCTV at the station “kissing and cuddling”.
The incident came to light after McFarlane contacted the complainer two days later and said he did not want to have any more contact with her.
However, the girl told her guidance teacher what had happened and McFarlane was subsequently traced by police.
Police officers attended Glasgow City College on January 21 where they traced McFarlane and brought him to Kilmarnock police station.
En route, he told officers: “I know what this is about. I’m guilty I’m not going to cause you any issues.”
The fiscal depute added that McFarlane said it was a “weight off his shoulders” and that he was “glad he got caught”.
Appearing in the dock, McFarlane pled guilty to sexual activity and having sexual intercourse with a child aged 13.
Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane called for social work reports to be prepared before sentencing and deferred matters until October 2.
McFarlane was placed on the sex offenders' register.
