Ayrshire man chased a woman with a metal pole and challenged police to a “square go”

An Ayrshire man who chased a woman with a metal pole and challenged police to a “square go” has appeared in court.

George Brewster disturbed his neighbours on July 25 this year when he was heard shouting outside a property in Largs at midnight.

Brewster, a prisoner of Kilmarnock Prison, was then seen chasing a woman with a metal pole in the street - which prompted onlooking residents to phone police.

Appearing before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court this week, Brewster admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and having a Stanley knife in his possession on July 25 this year.

The 26-year-old was residing with the woman at the address when the offence took place.

The prosecutor said: “Neighbours were disturbed just after midnight because the accused was outside the property and he was shouting.

“He was advised to keep the noise down however the disturbance continued.

“Around 10 past one the neighbours observed the accused to be outside shouting and swearing and banging on the door.

“The neighbours observed him to pick up a metal pole before making his way around the side of the house.”

Brewster could be heard shouting in the back garden and was then seeing chasing the woman with the metal pole.

As a result, neighbours phoned the police and Brewster was later arrested.

The court heard how on route to Saltcoats Police Station he called police officers “ginger c***s”, “sh*** bags” and challenged them to a “square go”.

He also told officers he would “find out where they lived”.

When Brewster arrived at the police station he was searched and found to be in possession of a Stanley knife which was hidden within the wasteband of his trousers.

Sentencing was deferred until next month for background reports to be prepared and Brewster was told be would remain in custody until that date.
