Ayrshire man assaulted police officer on day of Old Firm game

A Galston man assaulted police officers and shouted sectarian abuse on the day of an Old Firm game.

Paul Robertson was fined £1000 after admitting abusive behaviour and assaults on three police constables on December 29.

Robertson, of Wallace Street, shouted, swore and threw ornaments before struggling with police at a house in London Road, Kilmarnock.

He headbutted one and struck the other with his elbow.

He also admitted assaulting one of the officers again by spitting on his face when he arrived at Kilmarnock police office and continuing to behave in a threatening manner by shouting and swearing and making sectarian remarks.

The 29-year-old was fined £600 for his threatening behaviour and a further £400 for three assaults on police.

He was ordered to pay £40 compensation to the victim of the sectarian abuse.
