Ayrshire in the eye of snow and ice storm set to his Scotland this weekend

Ayrshire is at the centre of an 11-hour snow and ice storm set to arrive in Scotland tomorrow.

Weather experts have issued a warning for the cold front that's set to last from 9am to 10pm on Saturday.

Met Office boffins say that up to five centimetres of snow could fall in some places.

And there is the potential for Ayrshire ferry services in the west to be disrupted by strong winds.

The Met Office warning reads: "A band of rain will move eastwards on Saturday bringing a risk of snow and ice across parts of Wales and western Scotland before clearing during the afternoon.

"Snow may fall to low levels for a time giving small accumulations in places.

"There is the potential for 2 to 5cm of fresh snow over higher ground, where strong and gusty winds will be an additional hazard and may lead to temporary blizzard conditions and drifting.

"The strong winds may cause some localised disruption to ferry services around western Scotland.

"Rain may also fall onto frozen surfaces giving a risk of icy stretches on untreated surfaces."
