Ayrshire Hospice pioneer unveiled as new Troon Citizen of the Year

The new Citizen of the Year in Troon has been suitably crowned - in the majestic surroundings of Royal Troon Clubhouse.

Jean Morman was presented with a plaque of honour by Troon Community Council Chairman Helen Duff.

And a bouquet of flowers to make the start of her year as the town’s Premier was presented by Gala Queen Emmie Irvine and her Princess Kiana Wylie.

Retired teacher Jean was one of the pioneers of the Ayrshire Hospice and has spent three decades supporting the charity.

When she stepped down from teaching at Barassie Primary aged 60, she committed to working one day a week with residents at the Hospice.

It was only last year, after 15 years, that she called time on her duty.

At Royal Troon, a fine banquet was served after formal speeches.

Chairman Helen Duff spoke of Jean’s tremendous community spirit and dedication.

In a gracious reply Jean said: “There are many others who help the Hospice, which has touched the lives of nearly everyone in Ayrshire.”

In the year ahead Jean will perform ceremonial roles, including at the 75th anniversary of the Glasgow Taxi outing in June, the town Gala and Wintertainment.
