Ayrshire heroin dealer jailed after police raid his home

A drug dealer caught with £260 of heroin during a police raid on his home was today jailed for five years and seven months.

At the High Court in Glasgow, Thomas Auld, 35, from Ayr, admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin at Main Street in the town on September 30, 2020.

Prosecutor Angela Gray said: “Officers recovered 20 wraps, each containing a quantity of brown powder plus £1,540 in cash from the kitchen worktop.

“Elsewhere in the house they found a set of scales, which were found to have traces of heroin. A number of mobile phones were found in the kitchen and bedroom.

“The phones were examined and various messages were found which made it clear that the accused had been supplying heroin to other people since September 18, 2020.

“The total value of the heroin recovered was £260.”

Auld had 28 previous convictions, including four for drug trafficking, four for drug possession and 10 for dishonesty.

Judge Lord Armstrong told Auld: “You have a significant criminal record.”

Defence counsel Lorenzo Alonzi said: “The value of the drugs was low and Mr Auld's previous drug convictions were at summary level."
