An Ayrshire golfer has been ranked 10th in the World Amateur of Golf Rankings and ranked number one in Amateur golf in Europe.
Euan Walker 23, who plays has had an impressive season so far:
First place : African Amateur Championship
Seventh place: South African Strokeplay Championship
Fifth place: European Nations Cup
Seventh place: Irish Amateur Championship
Third place: English Amateur Championship
Second place: The Amateur Championship
Second place: European Amateur Championship
The Kilmarnock Barassie player was within touching distance of a dream place in the big three – The Open, US Open and The Masters.
But Euan was left to rue what might have been when he suffered agonising defeat in the final of the Amateur Championship.
Walker was five down after just nine holes of the 36-hole showdown at Portmarnock against Irish opponent James Sugrue but he battled back to take the tie to the final hole which he needed to force a play-off .
However, there was no fairytale finish and Walker was pipped by the narrowest of margins.
Walker had been looking to emulate Barassie colleague Gordon Sherry who won the Amateur crown in 1995 and he was the first Ayrshire player to make it to the final since Michael Stewart in 2011.
Now, the world is Euan's oyster as he takes stock of his future.
“My game wasn’t anywhere near good enough to play in The Open," said Euan.
"I’m not exactly sure why I entered, I think it was because a lot of my friends were giving it a go.
"But I’ve improved a lot since then so I am in a better position to give it a go this time around."
