Ayrshire football side set to let SJFA membership lapse and dive straight into seniors

Kiilwinning Rangers look set to turn down the chance to renew their SJFA membership as plans for a new West of Scotland League gather pace.

Three options are essentially on the table for Junior clubs after football chiefs reached a consensus on the best way to provide a path into the pyramid system for non-league sides.

Option A would allow Junior teams to join the WoSL - which would enter the pyramid at tier 6 and feed into the Lowland League -  while retaining SJFA Membership so they can play in the Scottish Junior Cup.

Option B is a straight dive into the WoSL membership as a new Senior side.

Option C gives teams the chance to opt out the WoSL and play in a new league in the West Region.

Kilwinning look set to ply their trade in a new West of Scotland league set-up next season (Irvine Herald)

The Irvine Herald understands Kilwinning, who vowed to look at 'all possible options' to access the pyramid back in January, want a clean break.

And several other Junior clubs likely to follow suit.

The crunch will come at the SJFA AGM in June when clubs are expected to pay their membership fees.

Kilwinning chairman Colin Boyd tonight said: "The reason we moved from Abbey Park to our new ground at Kilwinning Sports Club was because we wanted to become a senior team."
