Ayrshire football: Boss feared bum's rush from new signing because of cheeky tattoo on his backside

Ardrossan Winton Rovers boss Stevie Wilson admits he feared getting the bum's rush from new signing Ryan Singleton - because of an Irvine Victoria tattoo on the midfielder's backside.

Wilson kick-started his summer recruitment campaign this week by luring the 25-year-old away from his beloved Vics after eight years of loyal service.

And he insisted he thought he'd have a real job persuading the player to move up the Ayrshire coastline for a fresh challenge.

He said: “Ryan is a diehard Vics man. His family has connections with the club and I know how much playing for them meant to him.

“I know leaving won’t have been an easy decision for him to make. He wasn’t far away from 10 years at the club and a testimonial year. There was a lot for him to weigh up.

“I knew I had my work cut out to persuade him because he has ‘Oh Ah Toria!’ tattooed on one of his bum cheeks!

"I think he got that done on a stag do with the lads."

“Seriously though, I’m delighted to bring him on board. He’s a big, strong lad who can play with both feet.

“He’s still only 25 and I think he’s coming into his peak. For a lad of his age, still relatively young, he’s achieved a fair amount in Junior football and I think he’s got that hunger and desire to want more.

“I think he will have benefited from playing in a number of different positions. I did the same when I was a player. It gives you a better overall understanding of the game.

“If we can reap the benefits of that I’ll be delighted.”

Wilson knows all about Singleton having managed him at Vics before quitting to join Winton two years ago.

It's a working relationship both men are looking forward to renewing.

Singleton, who won a league title and two promotions with Vics, said: "I know what I’m going to get with Stevie."

“He did a great job at Vics and I know he and Winton are very ambitious about the future.

“Stevie will be eying promotion from the West of Scotland League conferences and that would mean playing Premiership football in a year’s time.

“That was obviously a big factor in me deciding to move. Not only that though, Winton have a great set-up with floodlights and facilities.”
