Ayrshire dogging capital unveiled as cases across Scotland surge after lockdown

Ayrshire's dogging capital has been revealed as cases across Scotland have shot up.

The Sunday Mail reports today that there has been a spike in incidents since lockdown restrictions eased.

The number of cases recorded by Police Scotland rose from 29 in 2018 to 31 in 2019 but dropped to 28 last year.

Cases have risen since coronavirus restrictions were lifted, with nine in the past three months.

Although there is no specific offence of dogging, people can be charged with having sex in a public place, lewd behaviour or indecency.

Figures obtained by the Sunday Mail involve offences in which dogging was mentioned in police reports.

The data shows that Glasgow is Scotland’s dogging capital, with 26 cases in the last three years.

In Ayrshire, Kilmarnock was the dogging capital with four cases — level with Paisley, Renfrewshire.

While Lanarkshire had 22 cases, Dunfermline in Fife and the Highland capital Inverness both had seven reports, and two each reported in Falkirk and Aberdeen.

A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland thoroughly investigates all reports of potential criminality in order to determine whether any illegal activity has occurred.”
