Ayrshire dog has emergency surgery after eating 215 stones from garden

Some dogs will literally eat anything.

That's what a top vet said after an Ayrshire dog was found to have swallowed HUNDREDS of stones.

Buzz, the springer spaniel, had to have emergency surgery after his owner Laura could actually hear melon-sized lump of stones grinding around in his stomach.

The pooch was rushed to Vets for Pets in Kilmarnock – based at Pets at Home in Queen's Drive Retail Park – for emergency surgery.

And it emerged that Buzz had been very busy indeed – eating a staggering 215 stones in total.

After his surgery, Buzz spent the night at Vets Now on Hill Street before going back to Vets for Pets

Senior vet Layla Wood, who operated on Buzz, said: "It was one of the worst cases of this that I've ever seen.

"I'm so pleased that Buzz survived the operation and made a recovery.

"Buzz is only one-year-old so he'd eaten the stones over a very short period of time."

Commenting on the rather extreme example, Laura Playforth, Vets Now's professional standards director, added: "Unfortunately, Buzz's predilection for eating stones is not that unusual.

"Some dogs will eat literally anything."
