A Kilwinning couple are celebrating a very special milestone this week.
Peter and Anna Gibson marked their Blue Sapphire Anniversary, which is an amazing 65 years of wedded bliss, on Thursday.
The couple's journey began after meeting ‘at the dancing’ at Bobby Jones in Ayr when Anna was 18 and Peter was 23.
And three years later Peter and Anna were married on November 19, 1955 in Kilwinning’s Abbey Church. The newlyweds then set up home in the Cooperative buildings in the town’s Woodwynd.
In their working lives, Peter, who came from Bartonholm, worked as a butcher for the Cooperative in Kilwinning and ended up managing one of the local stores, while Anna worked in Strathclyde Knitwear in Irvine’s Ballot Road.
The couple went on to have a daughter, Fiona, who lives in the Netherlands with her family. They also have a grand-daughter Megan, 26.
Anna considers herself and Peter to be ‘very lucky’.
She told the Irvine Herald: “We just get on so well, we always have. We’re happy and feel very lucky.
“My advice to young couples just starting out is to just to go with the flow, yes you’ll have differences of opinions, but you just have to sort them out and get on with things.”
Peter and Anna spent a quiet day on Thursday and plan to perhaps treat themselves to something for the house as a way of marking the big occasion.
They are also planning a special meal at the Seamill Hydro with niece Kirsty and her family to celebrate.
