Ayrshire councils publish provisional dates for schools returning after summer

The provisional dates for schools in Ayrshire to re-open has been revealed.

Officials in South Ayrshire say they are working to a date of Wednesday, August 12 for pupils to return to class.

In East and North Ayrshire, schools hope to return on August 11 for the start of the 2020-21 term.

It will mark the first time in five months that children have received classroom lessons following the coronavirus lockdown.

But strict social distancing measures are set to be in place, with teachers already returning to plan the new look way of learning.

Part-time classes and an increase in online learning are among the measures being discussed.

The Scottish Government revealed that it hopes to start reopening schools from August 11.

Today's list is a provisional publication of dates from local authorities across the country.
