An Ayrshire childminder has been praised for the service she provides in a Care Inspectorate report.
Yvonne McTaggart’s quality of care and support, her management and leadership and her home environment were all rated as ‘good’ by the scrutiny body.
The findings come after a recent unannounced inspection into Mrs McTaggart’s service, which is based at her home in Dalrymple.
The service is registered to care for seven children at any one time under the age of 16.
An extract from the Care Inspectorate report said: “Three young children were attending the service during the inspection visit.
“The children were settled and relaxed in the childminder’s care.
“We spoke with three parents of children who attend the service by telephone consultation.
“All parents confirmed that they were overall very happy with the care and support their child received when attending the service.
“And the childminder demonstrated that she knew the children attending her service well. Interactions were warm and caring, supporting the children to feel secure.”
The report also goes on to say how Mrs McTaggart “supported the children’s confidence and self-esteem” through “effective use of praise and encouragement.”
The Care Inspectorate were also “satisfied” the service had “appropriate infection control procedures” in place to support a “safe environment for children.”
The report notes: “We found that the childminder’s home was clean and well ventilated, children were accessing outdoors daily and the childminder spoke confidently of the enhanced cleaning arrangements in place.”
One requirement for the service was to update the administration, recording and storage of medication procedures in line with the current health guidance and that the service provider should ensure that consent to administer medication is “always sought prior” to medication being administered to children.
It was also noted that the childminder had pets, two cats and two rabbits, that had “limited contact” with the children.
And Mrs McTaggart had developed a pet policy and risk assessment taking into consideration children’s safety and “all necessary infection prevention and control measures.”
