Ayrshire Cancer Support receive £35k boost from two fundraising drives

Ayrshire Cancer Support received a £35,000 boost from two fundraising drives.

More than 800 people showed up to the Killie Legends game on May 18 at Hurlford United’s Blair Park and the sports dinner at the Fenwick Hotel later in the evening.

ACS raised more than £22,000 from the day as 72 mascots at the match handed in sponsorship money totalling more than £6500.

Loudoun Gowf Club held their annual charity day in aid of ACS and raised over £13,200 as 248 players took part. The club has raised more than £45,000 in the past two years.

Josh Hollywood of ACS said: “The local community were absolutely fantastic and really got behind these events when we launched them back in January.

“We had over 35 businesses help fund and support the day and we could not have done it without them and our fantastic team of volunteers who attended to help make it all happen.

“Kilmarnock FC in particular were very helpful and donated the match day jerseys and some auction prizes.

“This was the first time the charity has ever put on an event like this so the end result in both money raised and awareness created has been a huge success for everyone involved.”

Mr Hollywood added: “We have also been overwhelmed with how well the 72 mascots did with collecting sponsorship money.

“This will continue to help us provide a range of free services to those dealing with cancer in Ayrshire.”
