Ayrshire baby music group leader helps raise funds for humanitarian efforts in Ukraine

An inspirational Ayrshire woman and her baby music group hit the right notes when they raised more than £1,000 for the Red Cross appeal for Ukraine.

Qualified music teacher Adele Corns, who runs Acorns music classes for babies at Alloway Village Hall, felt compelled to do her bit when she saw the tragic events and devastation unfold in the war-torn country.

And it prompted Adele to ask for a small donation from those attending her twice-weekly classes.

Each 45 minute session is packed with both live and recorded music for babies and toddlers and the group use a wide variety of instruments and props.

Attendees were more than happy to make a donation.

Now Adele’s been able to raise a whopping £1,116.50 to help the Red Cross Appeal’s humanitarian efforts.

On hand to receive a cheque was Brian Sharkey, community legacy manager for the British Red Cross, who has thanked everyone for their fundraising efforts.

Brian said: “While on maternity leave, Adele couldn’t find any music classes for her baby son Matthew, so she started one class on a Thursday and now Acorns has flourished, since starting in August.

“The classes are a mixture of fun, live music, instruments and props and have become extremely popular with parents, toddlers and babies.”

He added: “Adele saw the devastation in Ukraine and wanted to do her bit to help.”

Adele, who is now back teaching part time, feels she has the best job in the world, being able to share her love of music.

Classes run on a Thursday from 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm and Saturdays from 10am, all based at Alloway Village Hall.
