Ayr woman who stole more than £10,000 from Bonmarche must prove she's paid back

A woman who stole more than £10,000 from an Ayr shop must prove she’s paid it all back, writes Edwin Lawrence.

Ayr Sheriff Court heard that Elaine McIlwraith, 54, can prove she’s paid back £7000.

But McIlwraith had no invoices or receipts with her for the remaining £3274.37p.

However, she said she could provide the necessary receipts.

And Sheriff John Montgomery ordained McIlwraith to come back on April 25 with proof.

McIlwraith, of Thistle Walk, Kincaidston, embezzled £10,274.37 from the Bonmarché shop in Ayr High Street.

This was done between March 1 and July 17, 2013.

McIlwraith insists she kept making monthly payments of £100 in compensation until she had paid back all her ill-gotten gains.

Sheriff Montgomery told her: “You need to bring your records to the court and you will have nothing to worry about.”
