Ayr United unveil official Supporters' Liaison Officer as fan Jamie Garrett steps up to role

Meet Ayr United’s newest signing – superfan Jamie Garrett.

The taxi driver was this week unveiled as official Supporters’ Liaison Officer.

Jamie, 58, will act as link between terracing and club in a bid to improve communication.

He told the Ayrshire Post: “I’ve been coming to Somerset since I was four years old, so hopefully I’m well qualified for the role.

“It’s all about building a bit of trust between fans and the club. Anyone who has concerns can come to me and I can either deal with the issue myself or take it to the club.

“Everyone should benefit out of this.”

Garrett is already a well known face to fellow fans and helps head up the club's Official Travel Club.

Now he's looking to put his knowledge to good use to aid both supporters and United officials.

United safety chief Roy Provan added: “Jamie will gather feedback from supporters and help to identify key issues and opportunities and communicate these to the club.

“The SLO role is backed by UEFA and the club feel it is an important role to provide an ear for our supporters at both home and away fixtures.”

Jamie can be emailed at slo@ayrunitedfc.co.uk or followed on twitter @Ayrslo
