Ayr United striker Tomi Adeloye feels right at home at Somerset Park

Tomi Adeloye reckons it can be second time lucky at Ayr as he bids to become the main man for boss David Hopkin.

The striker bagged his third goal for United as they staged a late comeback to rob Arbroath at the death on Saturday.

And Adeloye, who spent time on trial at Somerset under previous boss Mark Kerr, insists there’s far more to come from him now that he’s getting fully up to speed.

The 25-year-old told the Ayrshire Post: “The gaffer wants me to be a real presence up front so I need to get my head down and work hard.

“I’ve always said I know what kind of level I can reach when I get myself properly fit and I feel I’m slowly getting there now.

“I’ve come here to play for a whole season with no distractions and score goals and the fans have been great with me.

“I always wanted to come to Scotland because I felt I was getting trapped in the Conference merry-go-round down south.

“It was time for me to try something different.

“I know lads who’ve come up here and done well and said really good things about the standard.

“So as soon as I got the opportunity to come up here I wasn’t going to let it slide.

“I was up for a short time last year under Kerrso but then everything happened with Covid.

“And I also spent a bit of time at Morton with Hoppy. He’s got me in great shape now and this is the first time I’ve had a full pre season.

“So I haven’t been this excited in years to get going.”

Adeloye knocked home from close range to spark Ayr's comeback from 2-0 down against the Lichties.

Substitute Mark McKenzie rescued a point at the end as he slammed home from eight yards to salvage the draw.

Joel Nouble and Michael McKenna had put the visitors on easy street before Nicky Low smashed a penalty against the bar that would have had Arbroath 3-0 up in the second half.
