Ayr United striker Michael Moffat admits personal training business will help beat coronavirus blues

Ayr hitman Michael Moffat insists the coronavirus shutdown won’t stop him staying in top shape.

The Moff, a part-time personal trainer, admits the lockdown has presented big challenges to his business with pal, Thomas Donovan.

The pair run PT sessions out of Somerset Park’s gym and a base in Mauchline.

But they’re keeping on their toes by using technology to ensure clients don’t miss a beat.

Moff, 35, told the Ayrshire Post: “We only just expanded in October to open the new site at Mauchline.

“So the timing of all this hasn’t been great.

“We’re trying to build up the business and the biggest problem with a lockdown like this is keeping people motivated when it comes to fitness.

“Many who might be new to the process will now find themselves back at square one.

“I’m lucky in the respect I can still get access to the gym and use it on my own twice a day.

“So I’ll be in tip top shape when all of this is over!”

The T&M team are currently firing out home workout videos to keep clients active.

And the clips have proved a popular way of connecting the lads with their fitness fanatics from afar.

But Moff admits even some professional footballers are finding it hard to stay in the zone as social distancing stays in place.

The Ayr legend, who has bagged 97 goals in the black and white, is just itching to get back on the pitch and make up for lost time.

He said: “Some boys are different than others but we’ve got a good bunch at Ayr so I’m sure they’ll stay on it.

“It’s all about finding a routine that works for you, but the situation is pretty surreal right now.

“From the club’s perspective, we obviously hope this is over sooner rather than later and we can just get back to playing football.

“The uncertainty is the worst part and not knowing when you’re going to kick a ball again is difficult.”
