Ayr United snap up former West Brom kid Andre Wright

Mark Kerr is backing Andre Wright to be the missing piece in his Somerset Park jigsaw.

The former West Brom kid becomes Kerr's third signing of the January window.

And the striker, 24, is being tipped to transform Ay United's fortunes in front of goal.

Kerr told the Ayrshire Post: "Andre is exactly what we need and will add lots to our play moving forward.

"He's a big, powerful runner and has the ability to get goals as well.

"He went over to Ireland and scored 18 goals in all competitions.

"So he knows the way to goal and has proven himself at a decent standard.

"We know from watching big Azza (Aaron Drinan) in that league with Waterford that it's a good level.

"Andre was highly thought of at West Brom as a kid and has sort of bounced about clubs since then.

"But he comes here at the right age and hungry to do well.

"With Tom Walsh back providing width and the likes of Cammy Smith, Luke McCowan and Michael Moffat, I think it will start coming together."

Wright has penned a deal at Somerset until the end of the season.

Ayrshire rivals Kilmarnock had also been in the hunt for Wright but both parties could not agree a deal.

Kerr added: "I'm hoping I've got a right good one here and Andre has the ability to do really well for us."

The striker should go straight into the squad for Tuesday's Championship trip to Dundee.
