Ayr United sign former Dundee, St Mirren and Queen of the South midfielder Josh Todd on loan from Falkirk

Ayr United boss David Hopkin has moved quickly to fill the void left by Cammy Smith today with the loan signing of Josh Todd.

The 26-year-old moves to Somerset Park from Falkirk on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Hopkin told the Ayrshire Post: "Getting Josh is ideal because he will add good competition for places during the run-in.

“Losing Cammy is obviously a big blow for us as he was an important player who added a lot to the team.

“But Josh is a talented footballer at a good age who comes with a lot of experience of this league.

"He's a strong, physical presence who will add a goal threat and I'm delighted to add him to the group."

Todd began his youth career at Carlisle before a successful spell at League Two Annan where he scored 23 goals in 81 games.

He has gone on to represent Dumbarton, Queen of the South, St Mirren and Dundee then moved to Falkirk last January.

His signing follows this morning's news that Ayr had agreed to terminate Smith's contract so he could prepare for a summer switch to the States.

The player requires to travel around Europe in the coming weeks to secure his visas ahead of the move, which would have ruled him out of playing for Ayr under covid restrictions.
