Ayr United set to appoint Lee Bullen as new Head Coach at Somerset Park

Lee Bullen is on the verge of being named Ayr United's new head coach.

The Ayrshire Post understands the 50-year-old is travelling north to finalise a deal and could be unveiled as soon as tomorrow.

Ayr owner David Smith and managing director, Graeme Mathie, targeted Bullen following his impressive work as Sheffield Wednesday Under-23s boss.

The Owls legend is revered at Hillsborough as both a player and coach and has spent three interim spells in charge of their first team.

But Bullen, who was also a huge hit at Dunfermline during his playing days, has been tempted to come back north for a crack at leading the Somerset Park revolution.

Ayr see him as the ideal man to head up their new structure as head coach, following the dismissal of Jim Duffy last month.

It comes hot on the heels of Mathie's appointment and that of former Hamilton Accies man, Keith Glendinning, as head of player recruitment.

Bullen's first task will be to take charge of his new team for the cinch Championship visit of table-topping Arbroath on Saturday.
