Ayr United players to sport Whiteleys Retreat t-shirts ahead of Ayrshire derby against Kilmarnock

Ayr United's first team stars will display their support for a leading local charity cause on Ayrshire derby night.

The Honest Men will take to the field for their warm-up ahead of the Killie clash sporting Whiteleys Retreat t-shirts.

The respite facility for children and young people with cancer and life altering illness is based on the outskirts of Ayr.

Opened in 2018, it welcomes families from across the country to its cottages for vital rest and recuperation.

Tuesday's show of support is part of the United's growing bid to raise awareness of causes like Whiteleys, and many others like them, who are carrying out positive work within the community.

Ayr chairman David Smith told the Ayrshire Post: "Whiteleys is doing a fantastic job and we feel it is very important to recognise that.

"This is something that costs us nothing to do but is very important in terms of acknowledging the efforts of others within the community.

"So we are delighted to do our bit to raise the awareness of the cause and this is something we'll be looking to do more of moving forward."

Maxine Allan, CEO of Whiteleys, added: "We're thrilled to have Ayr United's support in raising awareness of our important work - especially at such a high profile match as Tuesday's big derby."
