Ayr United make double signing as Patrick Reading and Dario Zanatta join up at Somerset Park

Patrick Reading and Dario Zanatta today became Ayr United's first new signings ahead of the October restart.

Boss Mark Kerr has begun the process of piecing his squad together for the Championship challenge.

And a two year deal for Reading, the Scotland under 21 full back, was quickly followed by the capture of Zanatta on a one year contract this afternoon.

It comes on a day when Ayr announced Michael Moffat and Steven Bell had inked new one year deals, with Andy Murdoch and Aaron Muirhead agreeing two year terms.

Former Middlesbrough left back Reading, 21, comes highly rated after a spell at Stevenage since the turn of the year.

Boss Kerr told United's website: "Patrick is strong and has real energy and pace down the left hand side.

"He moved to Stevenage in January however with everything that has happened with Covid19 we had an opportunity to get him to Scotland and are absolutely delighted to get the deal done.

"Some top names in football speak extremely highly of him and of course he has played with some of last seasons squad at under 21 level."

Also in the door at Somerset is former Hearts, Alloa and Partick striker Zanatta, who invoked a clause in his contract to leave Firhill following their relegation to League One.

Kerr added: "Dario is an exciting player, I am sure most of our fans have seen him play against the club on several occasions and he always causes problems.

"He is a player that I have always liked and we are thrilled to be able to add him to our squad."
