Ayr United hunt thug who spat in steward's face

And the Scottish Championship club is also appealing for information about so-called fans who threw coins at the match.

The club has strongly condemned their behaviour as "wholly unacceptable" and have vowed to find the culprits.

A statement on the club's website read as follows: "With regards to the game against Queen of the South at the weekend, it has come to our attention that there was instances of coin throwing and a steward being spat in the face.

"This is wholly unacceptable and in no way can be excused.

"We are working closely with Queen of the South and Police Scotland with a view to tracing the culprits."

Roy Provan, Safety and Stadium Manager at Somerset Park, added: "If anyone has any information with regards these incidents, please contact me on stadium@ayrunitedfc.co.uk or via Jamie Garrett slo@ayrunitedfc.co.uk"
