Ayr United fans thanked for "ongoing support" as Supporters' Fund donates more than £35,000 this season

Ayr United fans have been thanked for their "ongoing support" as a fund set up to boost the club surpassed £35,000 for the season.

The AU500 Fund, which recently handed over its latest £10,000 donation, has announced its figures for the current year.

A total of £35,700 has been donated during the 2019/20 campaign.

The scheme is closing in on 150 paying members, who each contribute on a monthly basis.

It comes as the Fund nears its £100,000 milestone since launching four years ago.

Club director Alan Murray, who represents United on the AU500 committee, said: "This is a truly fantastic ongoing level of commitment from fans at a very difficult time.

"It's important to note just how much this is appreciated by all at the club.

"The money donated over the course of this season, and many others, has proven vital and will continue to do so."

A spokesperson for the Fund confirmed an extra 20 monthly paying members have signed up since the start of the coronavirus crisis.

The boost comes ahead of a vital vote of all SPFL clubs which could see the early conclusion of the Scottish lower leagues.

Ayr chairman, Lachlan Cameron, has confirmed he will ask his Board to back proposals to call a halt to the campaign as things stand.

That would mean crucial prizemoney being handed to clubs now, at a time when cash flow concerns are at their most critical.
