Ayr United fans donate another £10,000 for player wages as AU500 Fund continues support

Ayr United fans are continuing to dig deep to help support player wages at Somerset Park.

The AU500 Fund handed over its latest donation of £10,000 this week.

It follows a total of £45,000 being donated to the club by supporters last year.

Since formation, the Fund has donated more than £100,000 to the players' pot at United.

AU500 committee member Jamie Garrett told the Ayrshire Post: "The ongoing support from fans has been fantastic, particularly during tough times for so many.

"We're delighted to be handing over another cheque for £10,000 which will go towards the all important player wages."

Fans rallied to the cause after the initial lockdown last March with £9,000 of one-off donations, which included £3,500 from auctions of fans' treasured Ayr items.

The fund has also been swelled by an additional 27 paying monthly members compared to this time last year, with several existing members increasing their regular payments.

Overall, money received last year by the fund and passed to the club was up a third compared to 2019.
