Ayr United dealt savage blow as midfielder Andy Murdoch ruled out for season

Ayr United have been dealt a huge body blow this lunchtime with the news Andy Murdoch will miss the rest of the season.

Scans have revealed the midfielder has torn his ACL following a serious injury picked up in Saturday's win over Partick Thistle.

Murdoch limped off in the opening minutes of the 3-2 win at Firhill and will now sit out the rest of the campaign.

Devastated boss Ian McCall said: "This is extremely bad news as Andy will be a huge miss.

"Of his type of player he is the best in the league.

"It's extremely tough for the lad himself but I've spoken to him and stressed how much he is to keep his head up and work towards a comeback."

It comes as Ayr prepare to head south to Wrexham on Saturday missing a stack of first team players.

McCall will be without at least nine first team regulars for the Tunnock's Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup tie.
